Black Bricks in Idle Breakout: What BB Is and How to Farm It
Somewhere around level 100 the game drops a new kind of brick on you. It’s black, it’s tougher than everything around it, and most of your balls will bounce straight off it without doing a thing.
Those are black bricks, and the counter they feed is called BB. It’s the currency that pays for boss fights, and boss fights are the only source of skill points in the game. So if you’re stuck wondering why your skills menu won’t give you anything, this is the thing you’ve been missing.
What Are Black Bricks in Idle Breakout?
Black bricks arrived in an update that added them after level 100. They show up alongside your normal bricks, they get more numerous the deeper you go, and their health climbs faster than a regular brick’s does.
Break one and you get money like always, plus 1 BB. That’s it. One brick, one point. There’s no multiplier and no bonus drop, which is why BB builds up slowly at first.
BB stands for black bricks, though plenty of people read it as black brick points. Both work. The game shows the counter next to your money once black bricks start appearing.
What BB Actually Buys You
One thing: entry to boss fights.
You spend it from the Skills tab, and the price ladder is fixed. The first boss costs 1,000 BB. The next one costs 2,000, then 3,000, and so on, climbing by another thousand each time.

Beating a boss is where skill points come from, and skill points are what unlock everything in the skill tree. There’s no other way to earn them.
There’s also a smaller use worth knowing. You can spend gold to switch off a boss’s health regeneration, and the amount of gold it costs is however many black bricks you paid to enter, divided by a thousand. So the first fight costs 1 gold to disable regen. It’s cheap, and against a healing boss it’s often the difference between winning and watching your damage get undone.
Why Your Balls Can’t Touch Them
This is the part that confuses people, and it’s a deliberate rule rather than a bug.
Black bricks are immune to every ball except the Sniper Ball until all the regular bricks on the level are gone. Clear the wall, and only then do your other balls start damaging them.
Sniper Balls are the exception from the start. They can hit black bricks at any point, no skill needed, which is the single best reason to keep a few in your lineup once you’re past level 100.
You can also buy your way out of the rule. Each ball type has a skill at the top of its column that lets that ball always damage black bricks, regardless of what else is on the board. There’s one for lasers too. Unlock the whole first tier and the immunity stops mattering entirely.
That creates a slightly awkward loop when you’re starting out. You need skill points to make your balls hit black bricks, and you need black bricks to get skill points. Snipers are how you break into it.
How to Farm Black Bricks Faster
A few things genuinely move the needle here.
Don’t Lose Your BB to a Prestige
Here’s the one that catches people. Prestiging wipes your black brick count.
Your skill points and the skills you’ve already bought survive a reset. The unspent BB sitting in your counter does not, unless you’ve unlocked the skill called Retain Earned Black Bricks After Prestige.
How They Change at Higher Levels
Black bricks don’t scale in a straight line, which surprises people who get that far.
Every thousand levels, regular bricks get a health increase and black bricks get a bigger one. At the same time, the number of black bricks on screen resets. You go back to one, then two, then three, and it builds up again from there.
Regular bricks catch up eventually too. From level 1,000 onward they carry the same health as a black brick, so the difference between the two stops being about toughness and becomes purely about the targeting rule.
Practically, that means your BB income comes in waves. It climbs as black bricks multiply through a thousand level stretch, drops when the counter resets, then climbs again against tougher bricks.

Final Thoughts
Black bricks look like a wall in the way when you first meet them. They’re closer to a second currency that the game never properly explains.
Everything downstream of them, the skill tree, the boss fights, the permanent upgrades that make late runs bearable, depends on how much BB you’ve collected. So the moment black bricks start appearing, keep Snipers on the board, spend your first skill points on the tier one unlocks, and don’t ever prestige with a full BB counter and no retention skill.
